Message to Biden – How Communist China’s Plan to Co-opt Latin America Threatens the US

-

ANALYSIS – Will the United States soon see Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) warships transiting a new Atlantic-to-Pacific canal through  to the Caribbean? This is only one possible military threat scenario evolving as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) unveiled its plan earlier this month, to essentially take over Latin America and threaten the U.S. in its own hemisphere.

“The Chinese Communist Party and government are actively looking to strengthen their ties throughout the Western Hemisphere, in particular with anti-American elements,” said Florida Sen. , a senior Senate Intelligence Select Committee Republican, reported the Washington Examiner. “Beijing is seeking to surpass the United States in every sector, and we must take this threat seriously.”

Meanwhile, Team Biden appears asleep at the wheel.

The Examiner notes that in early December:

Chinese officials outlined their ambitions following a summit with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States. This intergovernmental forum was launched in 2011 under the auspices of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who wanted a venue to rival the Organization of American States and challenge U.S. influence in Latin America, and it now stands to furnish Chinese General Secretary with a platform to gather a coalition of leftist and authoritarian leaders congenial to Beijing's interests.

The -CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) summit on Dec. 3 produced a plan not only to deepen economic ties but to increase “political and security cooperation” while also integrating China into regional high-tech spheres from “space science, satellite data sharing, satellite applications, construction of ground infrastructure,” to cyberspace, artificial intelligence (AI), and even nuclear power. Just days after the CELAC summit, Communist China gained its first victory when Nicaraguan President , shortly after winning corrupt and undemocratic ‘elections,' chose to close the Taiwanese Embassy in favor of a new friendship with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping.

In a recent OPED in El American, Rubio explains the threat:

The Ortega-Murillo regime sees the CCP as a better ideological ally than the U.S. because Ortega's long list of crimes and human rights violations are of no concern to the genocidal regime in Beijing. Ortega also wants continued Chinese funding for the construction of an Atlantic-to-Pacific canal through Nicaragua, which People's Liberation Army warships can then use to access the Caribbean.

Expect much more Communist Chinese influence throughout America's soft underbelly and southern flank. U.S. Army War College research professor Evan Ellis, a former member of the State Department policy planning staff, told the Washington Examiner:

The Chinese don't say, ‘We want to take over Latin America,' but they clearly set out a multidimensional engagement strategy, which, if successful, would significantly expand their leverage and produce enormous intelligence concerns for the United States.

This growing Chinese threat in our own backyard needs to be an increasing concern to the entire U.S. national security community. And Team Biden should wake up to the danger.
