Report: Highland Park Parade Shooting Suspect Confesses

-

A state attorney has revealed that the suspect in Monday's at a Fourth of July parade in suburban Chicago has confessed.

The news comes as a judge ordered the defendant, Robert Crimo III, held without bond after being charged with seven counts of first-degree murder.

Crimo, 21, reportedly fired more than 70 rounds onto parade-goers from the rooftop of a building in downtown Highland Park shortly after the parade began.

The General Assembly passed a firearm restraining order, also known as a red flag law, years ago. Still, Crimo slipped past it because neither his family nor the police sought to file a gun restraining order against him — despite warning signs and repeated encounters with :

As Hot Air's Allahpundit notes:

A few months later, the suspect applied for a “Firearm Owners Identification” (FOID) card in Illinois that would allow him to purchase a gun. Because he was under 21, he needed parental consent to do so.

Luckily for him and unluckily for the residents of Highland Park, that parental consent was given. A two-year-old there will grow up without parents of his own as a result.

CNN further reports on the case's latest developments courtesy of Lake County, Illinois State's Attorney Eric Rinehart:

“He was questioned by the Highland Park Police Department, he was, read his Miranda warnings, attorneys, et cetera. [Crimo] went into details about what he had done. He admitted into what he had done,” Rinehart said.

“In the courtroom, we will seek the maximum sentence against this offender. Not because we seek vengeance, but because justice and the healing process demand it,” Rinehart proclaimed.

The judge scheduled the next hearing in Crimo's case for July 28.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office also revealed that Crimo contemplated carrying out another attack in Madison, Wisconsin, after escaping from downtown Highland Park.

Rinehart added that “many more charges” are to come.

So, what do you think? Should prosecutors charge Crimo's father? Tell us in the comments below!

  1. Sad case of a person slipping thru the cracks.
If Gov. Pritzker had not authorized the taking of OVER 42 MILLION DOLLARS from the F.O.I.D. & Concealed Carry fees that were collected & applying it to the “general fund” as politicians are wont to do, F.O.I.D. would have the necessary personnel to properly vet applicants, instead, they are far under-staffed & SEVERELY backlogged.
Seeing this happen in IL, the state of WI passed a bill mandating that ALL monies collected from their Concealed Carry License program STAY IN THAT APPLICATION.

This is just ANOTHER failure by, or due to, Gov. Pritzker !

(this can be verified, I am an IL Concealed Carry instructor)

    • Illinois is one of the only states in the union where a voter mandate to put the tax money collected for one purpose can pass with overwhelming support and still be ignored by our legislature. Why? Because it is ‘non-binding’. All of our tax money ends up in the general fund to be spent how the democrats want, starting with the lottery and moving onto the gas tax. The one is supposed to go to our schools and the other is supposed to improve and maintain our roads and bridges. Illinois is going bankrupt both morally and financially because of Tax-and-Spend democrats!

  2. If you have a red flag law that is going to be ignored, why bother? If you elect morons, this is the result.

  3. Since this Evil Killer was under 21 and his parents accepted full responsibility for his Acquistion and Use of the Weapon used to ambush and kill his innocent victims at the parade & 4th of July Celebration, He and his Parents are both responsible for his actions, punishment and civil penalties including consequences from lawsuits by surviving victims and the families of the deceased victims.

  4. I DEFINITELY think the father should be prosecuted as well. He had to know his son had problems, and
didn’t do anything about it when the police came because he threatened to kill ” everyone” What more did the father need???? This is something where the ball was dropped everywhere. He signed the paper when he his son applied or the gun, so he should be held accountable.

  5. How About Drug Use. I Have Heard Several Reports That All These Mass Shooters Are On Anti-Depressants Or Heavy Pot Users. The Weed Of Today Is Way More Powerful Than Used In The Past. Who Knows How The Drugs From Big Pharma Really Affect People. When There Is Money To Be Made, The Truth Is Buried.

  6. I suggest you look into the CIA MK-Ultra program. There you will find out how and why there have been more mass shootings.

  7. The father knew his son had problems and he signed for him to get a card so that he could buy guns. He is as much to blame as his son.

  8. Gov. Pritzker, Mayor Lightfoot and other Dems have been letting criminals go. How many is a secret. Neverless, I want to see them let Crimino, a White guy go, just to make if fair.
