US ‘Black-on-Black’ Murder Soared During 2020 – Year of BLM Riots

ANALYSIS – Related to my recent piece on a liberal think tank recommending a renewed focus on criminals and the mentally ill, rather than on guns, to combat the surge in ‘gun violence’ in the nation’s capital, a new study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention () published Tuesday shows black-on-black homicides surged nationally during 2020.

That was of course the same year that Black Lives Matter () protests and violent riots rocked major cities across the United States, especially during the 2020 BLM ‘Summer of Love.’ The focus of this massive civil unrest was to bash law enforcement and pressure, often successfully, to ‘defund the police.’ (RELATED: Biden’s New Budget Doesn’t Absolve Him of Attacks on Police)

This rate of homicides involving firearms in 2020 is the highest level in 26 years.

However, in contrast to that far-left anti-police narrative, the new report makes for sobering reading. Cops aren’t the ones disproportionately killing blacks in America, but rather, it is other blacks. (RELATED: NYT Writer Can’t Explain US Crime Wave – So Blames America Instead of BLM)

The data showed blacks are at least four times more likely to be killed by a gun than the overall population, and 12 times more likely than a white person. And let’s be clear, these guns used to kill mostly young blacks are predominantly wielded by other blacks, not police or people of other races.

While increased ‘gun violence’ is often linked by the Left, without much evidence, to the coronavirus pandemic, which reached the United States in January 2020, the impact of COVID did not really have a pronounced effect until the latter part of the year.

Meanwhile, the CDC assessment shows a distinct point. The ‘gun violence’ spike in 2020 was far more pronounced in the black community.

Overall, the firearm homicide rate, measured per 100,000 people, rose from 4.6 in 2019 to 6.1 in 2020 – a leap of 34.6%. The actual numbers are 14,392 homicides in 2019, and 19,350 in 2020.

However, dramatically, among black Americans, the rate was 26.6 deaths per 100,000 – a 39.5% increase over 2019. Meanwhile, for white Americans, the rate was only 2.2 per 100,000 – still a rise of 28.4% on the previous year, but statistically far less noteworthy.

While, in a typical liberal manner, and using the latest leftist buzzwords, the CDC report tried to spin the disturbing data by blaming the surge in Black-on-Black murder on “systemic inequities and structural racism,” they can’t hide that race has played a distinct role, as other minorities were also found to have higher rates of gun deaths.

This is just more proof that guns don’t kill people, criminals and mentally ill people with guns do. And sadly, far too many of the murderers, and the victims, are minorities, especially young blacks.
