Congressman Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) announced minutes ago on the House floor that he has resigned effective immediately.

Reed was accused of sexual misconduct one year ago. It's unclear if the allegation brought against him factored into today's decision.
Nicolette Davis said Reed drunkenly groped her in an article published last March in The Washington Post.
Reed had represented New York's 23rd Congressional District since 2010. Although the redistricting process isn't finished in New York, the 23rd District is all but guaranteed to remain in the Republican column.

Punchbowl News, which first reported on Reed's resignation, said Reed is joining Prime Policy Group, a bipartisan government relations and public affairs firm in Washington, D.C.
“I humbly bid farewell, and submit my resignation as a member of the House. And I wish you all Godspeed,” Reed said on the House floor.
Davis told the Post last year that Reed rubbed her back and thigh and unhooked her bra when the two were at an Irish bar in Minnesota. Davis at the time was a lobbyist for an insurance company.
At the time, Reed said he didn't remember the incident but took responsibility for disrespecting Davis.
“Even though I am only hearing of this matter as stated by Ms. Davis in the article now, I hear her voice and will not dismiss her. In reflection my personal depiction of this event is irrelevant,” Reed said.
That was the honorable thing to do. I am not going to judge but it did not seem to be that bad unless she objected and said no. Then he should have stopped period. Anyway, it seems like there was more. I am impressed that he took responsibility for his actions and resigned.
I find it UNBELIEVABLE that these repukicants think they are going take over both houses, then constantly pull stunts like this. Frankly, I think ALL 535 members of congress oughta be thrown out on their ear and the citizens of this once-great country re-take over the gummit!
Of course, being a Republican , the accusation is all that’s required . No standard of proof needed. Not even saying he did not overstep – but show me some video ( as in the many instances of Brandon touching folks obviously uncomfortable with it) . And I’m tired of all these many years old claims in regard to anyone on either side of the aisle.
And yes, The R’s will assume a majority but enough RINOs remain that no promises will be kept.
