Senate Preps For Second Amendment Showdowns

-

Senators Release Gun Bill Framework

Senators are currently working on a bipartisan gun bill.

Fox News reported earlier that the framework of the bill contains the following provisions:

“The proposal includes initiatives to support state crisis intervention orders; a national expansion of mental health services for children and families; expanding mental health programs in schools; enhanced review process for gun buyers under the age of 21; penalties for straw purchases; and additional funding for school resource officers.”

This bill is rumored to be much less radical than the one passed by the House last week, based on that framework.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) shared the following thread on Twitter over the weekend, stating that the group does not take a position on “frameworks” and will make their thoughts on the bill known when one is available.

Texas Senator John Cornyn is the lead Republican voice in the Senate deliberations, and he reportedly will nix anything in the bill that would not play well with his conservative Republican base back home in the Lone Star State.

As our team reported last week, 20 Senators have signed on to the framework. That group of 20 is split evenly between Democrats and Republicans, and contains the following members:

Chris Murphy (D-CT), John Cornyn (R-TX), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), (D-CT), Roy Blunt (R-MO), (D- NJ), (R-NC), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), (R-ME), Chris Coons (D-DE), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), (D-AZ), Angus King (I-ME), Joe Manchin (D-WV), (R-OH), (R-UT), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), and (R-PA).

Nominee Dettelbach Still Faces Final Senate Vote

Also pending is a Senate vote to confirm Steven Dettelbach to be the next director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF).

The confirmation of his nomination now seems to be imminent as Joe Manchin told CNN last week that he would vote to confirm Dettelbach to the role.

Even if no Republicans voted for Dettelbach, he could still be confirmed to the post by a tie-breaking vote cast by Vice President Kamala Harris.

A Dupe on Dobbs
Rumors were swirling around Twitter yesterday that the Supreme Court would issue a ruling on the Dobbs v Jackson WHO decision – which would overturn the 50-year precedent set by Roe v Wade in 1972. The timeline for the release of that ruling has since been pushed back to some time next month.

Since a leak of the alleged Dobbs decision earlier this year, conservative justices have faced threats from radical left-wing groups at their homes and places of worship. A man was arrested earlier this month after threatening to murder Brett Kavanaugh. All the while, has also had her church targeted.

  1. Our opinion is that we are in agreement that gun purchaser’s age could be raised from 18-21 years of age. We are NOT in favor of the Red Flag provision. We do find it confusing that guns are targeted when automobiles and knives are not being discussed. People, either with mental disease or criminal behaviors need to be targeted. People kill people. Whatever their issues are, their behaviors are displayed over and over again to those around them. People committing crimes that harm others need to be prosecuted and incarcerated. If all individuals know that they will be punished for their choices, crime would diminish. The riots and killings continue because those individuals know that DA’s will not press charges, but give them a get out of jail free card.

  2. (senator) John Cornyn has about always been (questionable) at Best on really supporting the 2 AMENMENT. WILL SAY One thing BUT Vote another. Not always supporting the RIGHT TO BARE ARMS, but saying he does! About the only reason I as a TEXAS VOTER, have ONLY VOTED for “Corn-yn” because the (democrat) running against him WAS WORSE! John the RINO POS ANTI 2Amenment senator!

    • I agree totally on Cornyn. He is more slippery than I first thought, and I have reluctantly voted for him because the alternative has always been so much worse.

  3. The list reads just like the roll call of hell because that’s exactly where everyone of these evil wicked senators are spending their eternity.

  4. Republican: If you don’t like guns…don’t buy one.

Dimocrat: I don’t like guns, so you can’t have one.

  5. Its discouraging to see Republicans jump onboard so quickly to Red Flag laws that gives control of our rights to persons whom are defiantly against guns, unaccountable to anyone and any reversal of our right comes at our own personal expense. They are in talks with the same groups we watch attack the police, encourage riots, allow criminals to run fearlessly with firearms, smear our civil liberties and align themselves with tyrants that have murdered in the millions, the communists. We all lose faith in our citizens when they turn evil in our midst but it’s naive to lose sight of the mass evil that has been committed by tyrants with unchecked powers. The second amendment was not about a deer hunt. And firearms are like money, good or evil depending on its use by its owner. We need to manage the few due to fear of the many. Ask Ukraine

  6. This is mostly an infringement of the 2A and some other “inalienable” rights. But one thing just keeps coming up. Around 1971 I guess, it was determined that 18 years of age would become the age someone could vote. The argument was, if someone was old enough to carry a gun for America, they should be able to vote and be responsible for their own affairs. Then a few states said, if they can vote they should be able to drink. Well, ever since then, government has been chipping away at that age, first they took back their ability to drink after a few years. Then bumped the age to buy cigarettes up to 21 also. Now they want to make it 21 to buy any gun. Why not make the age to vote 21 again? It worked for all that time since the beginning until 1972. Of course that will never happen because the democrats think those kids are part of their base. Look past the distractions to what these traitors are pedaling, it is all part of selling you, Marxism, socialism and the death of America. Make them pay for this treason.

  7. What part of “shall not be infringed” do they not understand? Gun control IS an infringement, plain and obvious.
